The Value of Self Investment

January 14, 2020

I’m going to just say it. Yes, you are worth it! Because, you are strong, you are beautiful, you are powerful, you are important. Everything you do for yourself is an investment. This goes back to the idea of “add value to your life.” Self investment is a huge component of living empowered. I cannot stress this enough: this is for you.

Define what self investing looks like on you. This is very personal. This could be anything. if you need to start a journal. Maybe it’s finding a new job, or a new place to live. It could be undergoing a necessary surgery. Maybe it’s getting out of a toxic relationship. It’s ok if you need to take care of this part alone. It’s ok if you need to take care of this part with people. There may be multiple definitions. That’s ok to. Define what’s going to bring you Joy.

Define what steps you need to take to move forward and do it. What do you need? is the first question to ask yourself. Create new paths for yourself. Take the steps forward to provide meaning to your self investment definition. Donate all your clothing and buying new clothes that expresses who you are, or get a new haircut, or move to a new place. The time has come for you to do you because you matter most. It may not be easy. It may be the hardest thing you ever do. But that’s ok, if it’s for you, then you can do it.

Take time to do what brings you joy and celebrate what you have achieved. Take pride in that. You achieved something for you and that is huge. Hold tight to your accomplishments, no matter how big or how small and use those accomplishments to make bigger accomplishments. Create a personal Sabbath if you will to take pride in what you accomplished. Do the things that bring you joy.

Find the value of yourself. What can you bring to this world or to your life? What are you feeding your well-being and your soul? I have found that keeping a journal of all my accomplishments to be quite empowering. For the days I feel like I’m going nowhere, I can look back and see where I’ve been. This allows me to recenter myself so I have motivation keep going where I need to go.

For me, part of my self investment meant taking ownership of my anxiety and understanding and finding peace with the fact that having anxiety isn’t my fault. Looking at what I can do is liberating. And, what I can do is grab onto that incredible opportunity to take ownership and start healing. I found this incredibly empowering and that concept was what brought me so much peace; there were parts I could take ownership of. It’s a blessing really. I decided to get off my medication and move forward with what was working to give myself relief (please note, and, again, I can’t stress this enough this is what worked for me. If you need medication that’s ok too).

Another component came with defining my personal style. I despise the fast fashion style. I find more joy in timeless lines and empowerment in polished pieces. Going full force with the vintage style gave me empowerment. But I adapted it to me by sticking with the timeless look a clean lines. I made it my own.

That’s the key with self investing; it’s all done for you with you in mind. keep moving forward, keep adding the things that bring you joy and eliminating the things that bring you pain.
