I Forgot to Stop and Smell the Roses

I was at work on Valentines Day. I’ll spare the details, and while nothing went terribly wrong, just a bunch of little things piled up and got to me. I didn’t realize when they said, “It’s the little things that make the biggest difference” they were talking about the negative things too. Also who is this they and how did they get picked to come up with the cliche anecdotes?

At the end of the night a co worker came up to me and gave me a flower rose she found and told me I was doing a great job. On the rose was a sticker that reads, “You are Loved”.

In that split second I realized I never stopped to reflect and appreciate the amazing things I had done that week. I simply forgot. I believe a key driving force in motivation is to stop and think of what you’ve accomplished. Think of the things that bring you joy. I forgot to take time to show myself love.

Thinking of the big and little things I’ve accomplished, the negative things don’t seem to matter. The good that you have done is what brings value. This is the keystone component to moving forward. Motivation shoots you forward. The best way I gain motivation is to see what I’ve already accomplished because this is concrete.

I forgot. Quite literally I forgot,to stop, take a moment, smell the roses, or look at every accomplishment no matter how big or how small.
